Featured Indie Junction Artist (April 24th, 2010)

My featured Indie Junction artist today is Alycia from curiouspug on Etsy.  I fell in love with her store the first time I saw it and I'm sure you will too.  Her items are beautifully made and photographed and would be perfect for gifting ideas for any occasion or even just to treat yourself.  Check out her store I know you'll just love it!  Here's a little bit more about her...


Where are you from?
I'm originally from NY but drove out to California in 2004. Yes, drove!

When did you start to craft?
I started crafting when I was a kid. My mom taught me how to sew. But it wasn't until just recently that I started taking it more seriously as a side business.

How did you hear about Etsy and when did you join?
I am not sure how I found out about Etsy originally but I had a buyer account back in 2008 I believe. I'm sure I stumbled upon it while searching for birthday gifts for family and friends.

What kind of market is your work geared towards?
I think more towards young to middle aged women, though there are some items in my shop for just about anyone.

What types of crafts/artwork do you do?
I work mainly with felt but I'd like to eventually begin sewing with pretty patterned fabrics. Right now I make felt iPod cozies and brooches. My shop is always evolving!

What kinds of materials do you like to work with?
Right now, it's all about the felt!

What are your inspirations?
Bright, fun colors and real life objects.

What is some advice you could share with other crafters?
Practice makes perfect. It takes a while to perfect your stitches so they look flawless. Also, many of my designs come from doodles so let your imagination go free!
